DESY’s MicroTCA Module Management solutions rely on a codebase that has been maintained for more than ten years and is considered a key component of thousands of AMC boards installed at DESY in the European XFEL and other facilities worldwide. The DESY MMC allows reliable 24/7 operation.

To meet the requirements of modern AMC hardware while minimising the development effort, the MicroTCA Technology Lab offers the DESY MMC as a complete solution with hardware and software.

MMC System on Module – DMMC-STAMP

DThe DMMC-STAMP system on a module (SoM) takes care of the entire management of an AMC card, e.g. in a MicroTCA ecosystem. The STAMP SoM is no bigger than a postage stamp (25.5 x 29 x 2.3 mm) and can be mounted on the front or back of an AMC card. The DMMC-STAMP is a drop-in solution, requiring minimal development effort and, due to its small size, it permits maximum packing densities on an AMC card.

The SoM, which is pre-programmed on delivery, operates the carrier board in line with the specifications and fulfils the function of power supply depending on the hot-swap handle, for example, or reading out sensor data or controlling characteristic AMC LEDs (blue, red, green). The module offers the complete management of the JTAG chain for up to two FPGAs. The DMMC-STAMP can be accessed via USB using a virtual COM port or via serial-over-IPMB using the open source tool MMCTERM.

MMC Software Development Kit – DMMC-SDK

The pre-programmed firmware installed on delivery of the DMMC-STAMP provides all the functions required for the operation of an AMC card. Additional features – such as controlling FMC cards, implementing specific sensors or using custom IPMI commands – call for corresponding adjustments to be made.

To create hardware-specific firmware for the DMMC-STAMP while minimising the need for non-hardware-specific programming, the MicroTCA Technology Lab offers a corresponding Software Development Kit (SDK). The basis for the SDK is full access to the DESY MMC software library as well as the provision of sample MMC implementations, e.g. for the DAMC-FMC2ZUP.

DMMC-SDK

DMMC-STAMP Breakout-Board

The DMMC break-out board allows the evaluation of the DMMC-SoM as well as hardware-specific adjustments of the firmware during operation. The DMMC-STAMP BoB allows access to all LGA pins of the DMMC-STAMP via standard 2.54 mm pin sockets for measurement and laboratory set-ups.
