Learning Entrepreneurship

Future Innovators - A Helmholtz Transfer Academy

Practical, demand oriented, and in a team: Generating ideas for business models originating in science.

Business ideas and good business models: DESY researchers and engineers have a lot to offer in these areas. The DESY Start-up Office provides individual advice to founders and start-ups that offer high-tech products or services. You can rely on our strong network in Hamburg, Brandenburg, and beyond.

High-tech start-ups are demanding and products such as laser systems or detectors are highly complex, so it often takes a longer amount of time before business flourishes. This is why DESY's infrastructure and consulting services aim to transform this relatively long incubation period into healthy corporate growth.

START-UP LABS

Modules of the Future Innovators Academy

Introduction to Entrepreneurship

The 1st module is an introduction to entrepreneurship: - Getting to know entrepreneurial skills and self-analysis - Short hybrid workshops

Become an Innovator - Hightech Design Sprint

The 2nd module focuses on inspiration through collaboration in interdisciplinary teams: - Experiencing the process: from Identifying existing needs and problems and developing and evaluating ideas for a solution to planning the implementation of promising ideas - One-week intensive workshop in presence, based on a demand-oriented innovation method

Develop your Business Idea

During the 3rd module the participants identify the transfer potential in your own research work: - Preparation for possible further start-up support in personal mentoring - Hybrid workshops

Networking and Continuing Support

Based on the knowledge acquired, participants analyze the transfer potential of their own research work. Participants receive further personal support, and learn about funding opportunities to develop ideas into successful start-up projects.

To promote the exchange of ideas among all participants, networking events will be held parallel to the three modules. In addition, the Transfer Academy brings participants into contact with experienced founders, who can share their experiences and provide helpful tips for taking the step into self-employment.
The DESY Start-up Office and DLR Technology Transfer teams are supported by experts with a background in "Entrepreneurship Education", in the implementation of the Future Innovators Academy. These include Professor Prof. Jeroen Bergmann of Oxford University, Dr. Imke Rajamani of Young Entrepreneurs in Science, Prof. Alexander Bassen of the University of Hamburg, and Marc Kley, the director of the Exzellenz Start-up Center Cologne.

The establishment and implementation of "Future Innovators - a Helmholtz Transfer Academy" is a joint project of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and DESY, and is funded by the Helmholtz Association.
