DESY Innovation Factory
In 2027, the DESY Innovation Factory will open an innovative ecosystem for start-ups, bridging research and new ideas in the fields of life sciences, new materials and quantum technologies in the heart of Science City Bahrenfeld.
The integrated technology and start-up center in the heart of Science City Bahrenfeld
With two locations - centrally located on the DESY campus and in the Altona Innovation Park on Vorhornweg - the DESY Innovation Factory will offer an outstanding research infrastructure for start-ups, scale-ups and companies that is unique in Germany. A creative and lively place that brings together bright minds from basic research, applied research and industry to jointly bring new innovative products and services into application. On more than 8,500 square meters of work space, a lively research and start-up network will be created in the heart of Science City Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, where people will work together on sustainable solutions for future issues of enormous social relevance.
Funding will be provided by the federal government and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

Infrastructure
The DESY Innovation Factory offers first-class laboratory and office space that is optimally tailored to the needs and requirements of life science, quantum technology and materials research. A variety of different experimental environments such as measuring rooms, wet labs, modern workshops, 3D printing facilities and co-working areas will be available. There will also be direct access to the top-class research infrastructure of the DESY campus and its specialized competence centers such as structural biology, nanosciences and laser technology.
Makerspace
The Makerspace at the DESY Innovation Factory already offers an equipped experimental area for 3D printing, mechanics and electronics to validate product ideas and develop prototypes. In addition to office space for individual work, ideas can be exchanged and further developed in co-working office spaces. For (pre-)founders, start-ups or for transfer projects from the deep tech sector.
