Start-up Labs Bahrenfeld: Construction is finalized

The Start-up Labs Bahrenfeld, the joint innovation center of DESY, the University of Hamburg and the City of Hamburg, are ready and wait for the tenants to move in. The official handover of keys by the general contractor, Otto Wulff GmbH, took place today.

The focus was on the future tenants, high-tech start-ups whose products or services are linked to the research fields of the DESY campus or are direct spin-offs from research institutes on campus. After the symbolic handover of the keys, the employees were able to gather strength for their upcoming moves at a socially distanced barbecues .

Dr. Arik Willner, Chief Technology Officer at DESY and Managing Director of the managint entity for the Start-up Labs bahrenfeld comments: "With the Start-up Labs Bahrenfeld, young companies have access to core necessitities to achieve growth with complex products: An excellent environment in close proximity to cutting-edge research and an ideal infrastructure."

In the coming weeks, the young companies will move into buildings and set up their own labs, workshops and offices on a total of 2200m2 of floor space, precisely tailored to their needs.

The official opening will take place on September 20, 2021 in the presence of Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Hamburg's first mayor.
