Start-ups and the beyourpilot team meet with Hamburg’s Mayor
High-ranking visitor at beyourpilot's start-up centre in Channel Hamburg: On Monday, 30 January 2022, Hamburg’s Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher visited the project's staff and some of the start-ups, which are supported by beyourpilot.
Beyourpilot is a central contact point for start-ups from science. The platform has been supporting scientific ventures in Hamburg since 2018 with the aim of promoting more start-ups at Hamburg's universities and research institutions through advice and support - online and offline. With beyourpilot, scientific ventures get everything they need on their way to success: Overview, advice, support in applying for funding, motivation and access to resources. Since beyourpilot's inception, there have already been over 1,250 advisory cases, 64 start-ups - with a survival rate of 75 per cent - and 232 million euros worth of venture capital has been arranged. Most recently, the female founders of the start-up traceless, mentored by beyourpilot, won the German Founder's Prize 2022.

Project partners next to DESY are the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), the Hamburg Media School (HMS), the University of Hamburg (UHH) as well as the Technical University of Hamburg (TUHH) and recently also the Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg. The venture is funded by the Administration of Economics and Innovation of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The operator is Hamburg Innovation.
Mayor Tschentscher visited the beyourpilot team and the supported start-ups on site to get a personal impression of the extraordinary success of the joint project. For this purpose, Martin Mahn, Managing Director of beyourpilot operator Hamburg Innovation, and beyourpilot project manager Tatjana Timoschenko as well as six representatives of the science organisations involved in the project welcomed him. Developments, challenges and future trends in Hamburg's start-up landscape were discussed in personal talks. Six start-ups supported by the programme introduced themselves briefly and engaged in a relaxed and informative conversation with the mayor. They reported on the various challenges they are facing as a young company with the help of beyourpilot.
Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher commented: "As an excellent science location and a strong economic centre, Hamburg offers the best conditions for successful business start-ups. The 'beyourpilot' project supports young scientists in Hamburg to develop new business models from good ideas."
