Groundbreaking decision: Start for excellent research and innovation

Katharina Fegebank, Hamburg's Science Senator commments: "The decision by the Budget Committee of the German parliament in favour of PETRA IV is ground-breaking for going forward. It clears the way for the construction of the world's best 3D X-ray microscope. PETRA IV is crucial for Germany's innovative strength and competitiveness. PETRA IV will be at the core of the Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld, and serve as a data and solutions factory for science and industry. I am delighted that the project is now entering the next phase with a strong signal from the federal level. I would like to thank the Budgetary Committee and everyone who has worked hard over the past few months in favour of this pioneering project for our future."

The funds can be used for preparatory construction measures for the PETRA IV X-ray microscope. This includes, in particular, the design and prototype of an innovative, energy-saving accelerator technology and the transformation of the business model.
