DESY Start-up School 2023 Open for Registrations

DESY's Start-up School is a free training program for scientists who want to transform entrepreneurial ideas into solid business models. The class of 2023 will start in May this year.

The DESY Start-up School offers six four-hour webinars plus one on one coachings by business leaders who are already successful in the market with their companies to the participants, equipping them with the necessary knowledge to start their own business. The program covers a total of around 45 hours from May to October, ending with a final pitch event. Applications are possible starting now until 15 April 2023.

The curriculum of the Start-up School is taught by business professors from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford and CEOs of successful companies. The goal is to attain the skills to to transfer a business idea from science to business: How do I create a business plan? How do I set up a budget? What are the marketing strategies and how do I raise the necessary funds? And new this year: What opportunities for business models will the new 3D X-ray microscope PETRA IV offer in the fields of health, energy, environment and material sciences? And what new methods of AI and data visualization?

The online program is in English and is specifically aimed at participants from Europe with a scientific background, whether in physics, materials science, chemistry, life sciences, data analysis or related research areas - especially those who already have experience with highly complex analytical methods.

The DESY Start-up School is financially supported by the Helmholtz Association. 2023 is already the 3rd run, in 2021 it was offered as part of the EU project CAROTS and continued in 2022 under the name CAROTS 2.0.
