„beyourpilot“: Launch of the online platform for Hamburg founders

The City of Hamburg wants to offer effective funding conditions for start-ups, because business start-ups are an important motor for dynamic economic development. They ensure that existing companies remain innovative and that new ideas as products and services strengthen economic power and employment. Particularly, this applies to start-up ideas with a high proportion of knowledge and research that arise in the environment of university and research institutions. This is where the new start-up platform "beyourpilot" comes into play. Michael Westhagemann, senator for economics, transport and innovation says: "Only if we manage to turn the city into an attractive innovation area in addition to the consistent further development of traditional strengths, can Hamburg's economic power and prosperity be secured in the long term. The right way is our innovation and start-up-oriented economic and science policy, which are made up of various components of start-up funding and innovation parks. With 'beyourpilot' we want to strengthen the framework conditions for innovations and start-ups to a greater extent".
For Dr. Arik Willner, chief technology officer at DESY, DESY's participation in "beyourpilot" is a matter of fact. We would like to further strengthen technology transfer and therefore the promotion of spin-offs has a high priority. Due to the close networking of the large knowledge organizations in Hamburg, founders have more opportunities to access the expert awareness and other resources they need. They are important requirements for the start in successful entrepreneurship. And hereby we empower not only the concept of Science City Bahrenfeld, but the location of Hamburg as a whole."
"The new platform offers an interactive working environment and will establish itself as a very significant support system for start-ups in the environment of Hamburg's universities and research institutions. Through the outstanding combination of online and offline offerings, the platform will enable us to create a unique selling point for Hamburg nationwide and strengthen our start-up teams in the long term," Westhagemann explains the advantages of "beyourpilot".
"beyourpilot" offers an interactive working environment and provides for the possibility of embedding the specific offers of the participating universities and research institutions in the structure of the offer, without abandoning its uniform appearance and the logic of its functioning. For this reason, several functionalities are available in the virtual offer, in which answers and partners can be interactively searched for in order to answer various questions and solve concrete problems. The platform "beyourpilot" is operated by the Hamburg Innovation GmbH (HI) and initially supported by the Hamburg Universities University of Hamburg (UHH); Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) and the research institute Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY (German electron-synchrotron DESY). Additionally, the platform is open for cooperation with universities and research institutions in the other northern German states.
